In this episode of the SaaS Revolution Show our host Alex Theuma is joined by Aytekin Tank, Founder & CEO of Jotform, as he shares how he bootstrapped a unicorn SaaS with teams of no more than six people.

“One interesting number I can give is, like, we always had this 50% revenue growth rate and we still have that. That’s very interesting. Actually, if we didn’t develop the enterprise version, we would actually lose that – we would probably drop down to like 30%. But then the enterprise came to help, and we still have that 50% growth rate today.”

Aytekin shares:

  • The one thing he did pre-Jotform that meant he had a much smoother ride in becoming an entrepreneur
  • Why he’s a big believer of free products, and how that goodwill leads to paying customers
  • How being a company of small cross functional teams has kept a positive company culture
  • The makeup of each team and how they cultivate innovation, productivity, and creativity
  • The building blocks of success, where technical skills meet business skills

and more!

In this episode of the SaaS Revolution Show our host Alex Theuma is joined by Barb Hyman, founder & CEO at Sapia.ai, who shares how she overcame three big challenges to build an enterprise AI SaaS and raise $25M.

So we tried and we didn’t succeed in building new category. We had this concept couple of years ago when we rebranded to Sapia that we were going to build this category around smart interviewer. And reality is it takes lot of money, it takes lot of commitment, consistency, and focus. And we realised that we were too insular, we were too leading with our product rather than really leading with your problems. And so we’ve really pivoted now to focus less on the category and much more on “here’s the value that you get”.

Barb shares:

  • The pervasive bias in tech companies and tackling mirror hiring
  • Why she believes the resume should’ve died long time ago
  • How Sapia have scaled the science of structured interview
  • Raising their $25M series A (incl having their largest customer invest in them!)
  • How they’re solving turnover through machine learning
  • Why having integrity with customers means having integrity with VCs

and more!

In this episode of the SaaS Revolution Show our host Alex Theuma is joined by Brendan Noud, co-founder & CEO at LearnUpon, who shares LearnUpon’s journey scaling to $30M ARR and beyond.

“We’re now rolling out proper territories, which we really haven’t had, loosely up to now. But now we properly have that for our team, it’s obviously a much bigger sales team, just the importance of functions like revops, starting to get into that level of data, and how you scale your go-to-market becomes much more important.

Brendan shares:

  • His entrepreneurial journey; from tax returns at 11 years old to strategy consulting at KPMG
  • Why LearnUpon chose to bootstrap for their first 8 years
  • The ONE thing LearnUpon does to ensure team members are truly bought-in to the company’s journey
  • The biggest accelerator that founders can control and how it leads to great growth
  • How they went from $10M to $30M ARR in four years (and their plan to get to $100M by 2030!)

In this episode of the SaaS Revolution Show our host Alex Theuma is joined by Harrison Rose, co-founder & CEO at GoodFit, who shares why founders get outgrown and what to do about it.

“So the obsessive, like, need to get ahead of the company growth in yourself I think is important, but I think it’s probably really important you focus on the right areas. I think generally we could all be more reflective just as people, so I encourage people to work with coaches and mentors to be honest with you, and recognising where you’re both enjoying where you’re spending your time, recognising where you’re weak, recognising where you’re willing and able to let others do work that maybe out of your week out are not enjoying, regardless of title as well sometimes.

Harrison shares:

  • His journey in tech from the age of 17 (including co-founding Paddle with Christian Owens)
  • When (and how) he realised he wanted to take a step back from his role at Paddle
  • His GoodFit journey (including their 100% YoY growth)
  • Why founders stepping back can often get greenwashed
  • The ‘year eight’ phenomenon and the most common reasons founders move on from their roles
  • The importance of recognising that you need to work on yourself as well as your business

In this episode of the SaaS Revolution Show our host Alex Theuma is joined by Alex Mifsud, co-founder & CEO at Weavr, who shares his lessons in scaling Weavr to 100+ people in 3 years.

“Try to imagine what the ideal, sort of, embedded finance equation of skills and capabilities would be for B2B SaaS businesses not to have to worry about all the complexities of financial services. We work backwards from that. We specifically identified skills that we need – it’s like building a football team, you can’t just have a great goalie, you’ve got to have the scorer, you’ve got to have the midfield players, and you’re curating a lot of that. And yet, you also have to make them work as a team.

Alex shares:

  • His role setting up the Malta Internet foundation in the early days of the internet
  • How Ixaris used the €80B grant from EU Horizon Program to build what is now called Embedded Finance
  • Why Weavr is being frugal with how they deploy their $50 million worth of capital (majority of which is still in the business)
  • Delivering success with a smaller team = higher engagement x less communication overheads
  • How Weavr’s building performance frameworks that serve a higher purpose

In this episode of the SaaS Revolution Show our host Alex Theuma is joined by Alex David, co-founder & COO of Corrily, to share their YC story and how they won the SaaStock USA Global Pitch Competition earlier this year.

There’s a lot of survivor bias in the startup world – like you don’t really hear about the founders who have failed, you hear about the ones who are successful so you compare yourself to them and you’re like “well I’m not that”. And so I think, that I hesitated to go into that space for a long time because of it, but you know, maybe that was fine because I learned a lot in my career and by having held off I bring a lot more experience to the table than I otherwise would have. Part of why we are having the success that we have is that none of us are college dropouts or first few years in our careers – all of us have had careers, and we’re kind of bringing that weight to the table of you know 10ish+ years of work experience and really bringing that to the forefront of what we’re doing.

Alex shares:

  • His YC experience
  • The benefits of their ‘follow the sun’ model
  • From starting as an awareness play to finishing as the Global Pitch Competition winner
  • The value in getting honest, real feedback from the judges
  • The immediate introductions made after winning the competition, including to one of the managing partners at Sapphire Ventures
  • His advice on building the right team early on
  • The biggest monetisation mistake SaaS companies are making

I know it’s an overused term “your network is your net worth”, but trust me, it’s the best way to engineer privilege. You may not have a network or you may not have influence, but if you create influence – just the compound interest on creating that influence – giving, giving, helping, bringing people together over time is you’re going to have everything you want.

Lloyed shares:

  • His childhood in Kuwait and the positive impact the community had on him
  • Why risk and companionship are part of his DNA
  • Getting to eight figures in revenue with no marketing spend

In this episode of the SaaS Revolution Show, our host Alex Theuma is joined by Angeley Mullins, Chief Commercial Officer at Resourcify, who shares if branding in B2B SaaS has taken a back seat.

So every founder and CEO has a voice, they founded their company for a reason, most people that founder their companies, you know, are overcoming a ton of adversity to found their companies and to raise capital. So use your voice, and whichever medium that works for you, if it’s giving panel sessions, if it’s being on the news, if it’s writing articles, doing a content blog, like you said it depends on the type of company and what they’re selling. You have a voice, and use it. That’s the most important thing.

https://www.linkedin.com/in/angeleymullins/Angeley shares:

  • Being a builder vs an optimiser
  • The value of team consensus and cohesion
  • Being in an era of sustainable revenue growth
  • The relationship between product market fit and brand identity
  • Building a brand that will keep paying off overtime (best done at Series A stage)
  • If TikTok is effective for B2B
  • The importance of being fearless – more people are afraid of success than they are of failure

Corrily Wins First-Place in Inaugural SaaStock USA Global Pitch Competition.

Competing against 18 scaling SaaS companies looking to prove product market fit, market validation, and promising business models, Corrily comes out on top.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM. August 15, 2023 — Corrily, San Francisco based monetization growth engine, joined global SaaS businesses in Austin, Texas (May 31 – June 2, 2023) to take part in SaaStock USA’s inaugural Global Pitch Competition. A three-part pitch series, Corrily’s co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Alex David, participated in the final round against OneUp Sales and Userflow before being crowned winner.

Alex David, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer at Corrily, said of the Global Pitch Competition:

“The pitch competition was an exceptional experience. Not only were we able to showcase our company, creating leads for our business – we were also able to meet and network with the other contestants, all of whom were amazing founders in their space. Winning the competition was the cherry on top – along with the fundraising support that it helped drive!”

Their SaaStock USA Global Pitch Competition win marks a new milestone in Corrily’s SaaS journey. Beyond gaining global recognition and access to SaaStock’s network of investors, the result reinforces Corrily’s potential in the fintech space.

Corrily’s revolutionary approach to monetization has led to remarkable results for their customers; experiencing monthly recurring revenue (MRR) increases of up to 50% within just sixty days of implementation. Harnessing the power of AI and machine learning, Corrily’s suite of tools enables businesses to drive profitable growth, whether they are embarking on their monetization journey or seeking to optimize existing strategies.

Based in London, SaaStock – founded by Alex Theuma – hosts its flagship annual conference in Dublin, Ireland – the economic impact of which is over €16 million across the last seven years. Alongside the company’s latest annual conference addition with SaaStock USA, the company hosts numerous local meet-ups across nine cities around the globe, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, and Krakow.

SaaStock in Dublin boasts an average:

  • 6000+ Attendees

  • 2500+ Companies

  • 600+ Investors

  • 130+ Speakers

On the event, Alex David comments:

“SaaStock USA was an incredible experience, especially considering it was the first one. The event clearly showcased the team’s experience in managing the Dublin event – with great speakers, valuable sessions, well-organized networking, and relevant vendors. It’s hard to continue innovating and growing tech conferences, as they often become primarily a sales playground and the speakers quickly become more about drawing a crowd than being actually tactically useful. Nevertheless, SaaStock has managed to grow an excellent event while keeping it genuinely useful.”

In this episode of the SaaS Revolution Show our host Alex Theuma is joined by Eynat Guez, Co-founder & CEO at SaaS unicorn Papaya Global, who discusses how she scaled the company beyond $100 million ARR.

So, thinking on scale and thinking of really, really good processes and infrastructures is very important at this stage because otherwise you’re just going to find yourself in an endless loop when you are trying to catch up people; we are trying to understand what they need. And obviously, I mean, this will impact their ability to grow, this will impact their ability to meet their targets. And then you’re going to find yourself in the second loop, which you’re constantly replacing people and training new people, but then you are not changing the narrative or changing the problem that you have.

Eynat shares:

  • Growing the business 300% YoY since year one
  • How keeping a lean team helped them scale quicker
  • Raising $5M in their first three years, and $445M in the following five
  • The importance of choosing the right clients at the right time- in the early days, focus on those with standards and needs you can meet vs the ‘big-name’ logos
  • Why the first $1M needs to be sold by the founder, not a salesperson
  • Their initial struggle around training infrastructures

and more!
